Cruciverso Italiano

Terms of service

Last updated: · This is a translation: where it differs from the Italian text, the Italian text prevails.

1. Who we are

Cruciverso is a service of Giovanni Sanna, Via Paolo de Muro 1, 07100 Sassari, Italy, VAT number IT02997740903 ("we"). To contact us: support@cruciverso.app. It is also the point of contact for users and authorities under Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 (Digital Services Act); you can write to us in Italian or English.

2. The contract

The contract is concluded when, after creating the account with your email or with Google, you complete your profile and accept these terms in the app. Before confirming you can check and correct the data you entered, and you can change it later from your Profile. The contract is available in Italian and English. These terms are always available at this address, where you can save or print them. We record the date and version of the terms you accept, and on request we send you the text of that version.

3. The service

Cruciverso turns documents, photos of pages, Wikipedia, Wikibooks and Wikiversity articles and texts written with artificial intelligence into crosswords to solve and review. You need a compatible device, according to the requirements shown on the app's Google Play listing, and an internet connection. Cruciverso is a tool for study and leisure, not an advisory service.

4. Account and age

To use Cruciverso you must be at least 14; if you are a minor, purchases require the consent of a parent or guardian. The account is personal: you are responsible for the security of the email inbox you sign in with and for the accuracy of the data you enter.

5. Content you upload

You guarantee that you have the right to use the documents and photos you upload, and you are responsible for them. You grant us the right to process them solely to provide the service.

6. Content generated by artificial intelligence

Clues, fill-in sentences, suggestions and Nona's texts are generated with artificial intelligence systems and may contain errors or inaccuracies even when the service is working correctly: check what you study. Content generated by the service remains ours: we grant you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use it for study. Content derived from Wikipedia, Wikibooks and Wikiversity is distributed under the CC BY-SA 4.0 licence, on the terms of that licence.

7. Gems

Gems are used to build crosswords; before each build we show you how many are needed. Gems have no monetary value and cannot be converted or transferred. Gems from packs, from the welcome bonus, those won by playing and those returned to you do not expire; gems from a subscription expire at the end of the period for which they are granted. Gems for a chapter we fail to build are returned to you; gems for a chapter that was built are not. Gems spent on reading your photos or on a text by Nona stay spent even if you then don't build the chapters; they are returned if the photos can't be read or the text can't be written. When you delete your account, any remaining gems are lost.

8. Purchases and subscriptions

Gems and subscriptions are bought on Google Play, where Google Commerce Limited sells them on our behalf: payment, receipts, refunds and the right of withdrawal follow the Google Play terms. Prices, including taxes, are those shown at the time of purchase. Subscriptions, weekly or monthly, grant the number of gems shown for each period, renew automatically and can be cancelled at any time on Google Play, taking effect at the end of the current period. Deleting your account or the app does not cancel the subscription.

9. Acceptable use

You may not: upload unlawful content or content that infringes the rights of others; request content that incites hatred or violence or that serves to commit unlawful acts; circumvent the limits of the service, including with multiple accounts; use the service with automated systems or overload it; access other people's data or our systems without authorisation; resell the service or its content.

10. Reports and moderation

You can report content generated by the app from "Tell me everything", in your Profile, and any unlawful content by writing to support@cruciverso.app. We assess reports with human review and, where useful, with automated tools. If we remove content or restrict, suspend or close an account, we tell you the reasons at the latest when the measure takes effect; you can contest it by writing to support@cruciverso.app, without prejudice to your right to go to court.

11. Suspension and closure

You can delete your account at any time, as explained on the Deleting your account page. We may suspend or close an account with immediate effect for just cause, in particular for serious or repeated breaches of these terms, unlawful use of the service, fraud or a request from an authority; in other cases, and if we decide to discontinue the service, with at least 30 days' notice.

12. Changes to the service and to these terms

We may change the service or these terms for valid reasons: compliance with laws or orders; security and abuse prevention; changes in the providers the service depends on, such as the artificial intelligence model, the store or payment systems; technical development of the service. Significant changes are notified to you in the app before they take effect. If a change to a paid service has a more than minor negative impact, you may terminate free of charge within 30 days of the notice.

13. Availability, liability and legal guarantee

The service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, failures or causes beyond our control. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable damage, for damage arising from use of the service that does not comply with these terms, or for damage arising from errors in content generated by artificial intelligence. Our liability for wilful misconduct, gross negligence and personal injury, the legal guarantee of conformity under the Italian Consumer Code and the other rights the law grants you as a consumer remain unaffected.

14. Intellectual property

The Cruciverso name, the logo, the character Nona, the illustrations and the app are ours or used under licence. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable right to use the app. Open source components remain subject to their respective licences.

15. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Italian law, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live. Disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the court of the consumer's place of residence or domicile.
